Historically it was the norm for people to access services provided by local network servers in a relatively secure environment giving rise to the acronym LAN. (or Local Area Network) This was a relatively convenient way in which to work, risks from external sources were negligible and as a result users weren’t bogged down to paranoid security measures that got in the way of what they actually wanted to do.

Today it is more common to find people working with remote servers and services communicating via the Internet, either subjecting themselves to restrictive security measures or leaving themselves potentially open to attack.

Enter the VPN.

What could I use this for?

If you want to collect a number of remote computers, connected via the Internet, and make them look like they’re all on a LAN, this is what you need. For example if you want to share disks or printers using Microsoft networking, gain access via to servers using Terminal Server, or indeed link two remote offices so they behave as one LAN, these things are all achievable.

There are two pricing schemes, the first where the server is hosted on your network and we manage it remotely, the second where we provide a Virtual Private Server which acts as a dedicated VPN server.
