Bandwidth is one of the important parts in a coding system, where it has an important role as a way of data exchange or transfer. Of course, the greater the bandwidth, the faster the data exchange that occurs.
Bandwidth itself can be applied to various needs, ranging from websites, data storage, applications, and many others. That way it can be said that this bandwidth is an important component in the digital world or the internet.
What is Bandwidth?
In terms of bandwidth is a data traffic system, because this is where the data exchange occurs to connect one server to another. There is a maximum capacity in this bandwidth or commonly referred to as BPS (Bit Per Second).
Generally, each server or web developer uses different bandwidth, so the speed of the web is also adjusted to the bandwidth. Of course, the denser a web is, the more bandwidth it takes so that the web can run smoothly.
How Bandwidth Works
The workings of the bandwidth itself is actually very simple, where it becomes the main bridge to connect the data center or server with the browser. To make it easier, it can be analogized with the highway.
For example, between City A and City B, there is a highway, this road is used by vehicles to reach the next city. Of course, there is a limit to the number of vehicles that can be passed on the highway, so the width of the road must be adjusted to the level of density on the road.
Bandwidth Function Based on Usage
For its own function, bandwidth is used in almost every digital system, where it is adapted to its use. However, broadly speaking, this bandwidth function can be distinguished as follows:
1. As a basic measure of data transmission
When there is an exchange or transmission of data there is a certain size, this size is used as the basis for exchanging the data. Generally, there are two exchanges of data in a digital system or the internet, namely downloading and uploading.
Both can be done at the same time, but uploads must have a smaller data transfer size. Considering that the central server will be more difficult to receive new data, while the creeping server will find it easier to get new data from the central data center.
2. Dividing Data Speeds into Different Tasks
In addition, this bandwidth also serves to divide the data speed, especially when transferring data simultaneously. There will be an even distributed of data so that the distributed data can run stably.
For example, when downloading files from the internet in large quantities, of course, the speed will decrease or be the same between one another. So it can be said as a speed regulator so that the transfer process is more evenly distributed.
3. Set the Maximum Data Transfer Limit
Bandwidth is a system that has certain limitations that cannot be passed or is commonly referred to as the maximum transfer limit. This can happen when the road or bridge is too full of existing data.
This is what is commonly found on major sites today, where you will experience lag or even be unable to open a website. This can happen because the bandwidth used is too full of other user server data.
Types of Bandwidth
It should also be noted that bandwidth can be divided into 2 types, namely analog bandwidth and digital bandwidth. The two bandwidths have several differences in their application, here are the reviews:
1. Analog Bandwidth
Analog bandwidth can be interpreted as an exchange of data over a frequency, where it has a very high speed or frequency. But in its use, it can only be used to connect a few servers.
This type is often found on an office system or server because it has fewer servers but has very high speeds. In addition, this type also has a more limited range, where it only reaches a predetermined area.
2. Digital Bandwidth
On the other hand, digital bandwidth is more flexible than analog bandwidth, because it has a larger number of servers and a wider range. However, about the speed, digital bandwidth uses a single frequency in it.
So the more servers that are connected, the slower the bandwidth that can be passed. Currently, there are many applications, such as internet provider networks, website services, online applications, and so on.
Examples of Bandwidth Applications in Digital Systems
To be more complete, you should also know examples of bandwidth usage in the digital world. Generally, the use of bandwidth is for road or bridge servers, but in full it is divided into several types, namely as follows.
1. Bandwidth on the Internet Network
The easiest example of bandwidth can be found on the internet network, where the provider uses bandwidth to regulate internet speed. Both speeds are in the form of 3G, 4G LTE, to the latest 5G.
In addition, the provider also uses bandwidth in various other sectors, such as wifi speed, number of quotas, and so on. So this bandwidth function is very important in an internet that is currently widely used.
2. Bandwidth On Computer
Not only the internet network but bandwidth can also be applied to a computer. Especially computers that have servers and are connected to each other, such as computers in agencies, schools, or even a company.
This bandwidth can connect one computer to another, then can share various types of files very easily. Here users no longer need to share files via flash, bluetooth, or coarse files anymore.
3. Bandwidth On VPS
Bandwidth is also applied to the VPS (Virtual Private Server) system, as the name suggests VPS is a digital server that has a connection in it. So it can be accessed by anyone and whenever they want.
This VPS is commonly found in applications, games, social media, and many others. Here, bandwidth is useful as a liaison between the central application server and propagates, so that browsers can use and access applications freely.
4. Bandwidth On Hosting
Another example comes from the use of website hosting, where a hosting has a bandwidth in it. This is to regulate the speed or capacity of the website in operation, the greater the bandwidth, the greater the website’s ability to accommodate traffic.
Surely you have visited various websites and felt the difference in speed between these websites. This is what influences bandwidth on website hosting because it is useful for accommodating traffic, sharing speed, and so on.
5. Bandwidth in Data Saver (Data Saver)
On the other hand, bandwidth is also applied to a data saver, such as Google Drive, Zippyshare, Megaupload, and various other online storage. This bandwidth will determine the speed of downloading or uploading files that occur online on the storage platform.
When traced again, bandwidth is a digital system that is very important, considering that it is what regulates the course or process of data transfer from one server to another. So that created the process of data transfer which is now referred to as the internet.
